Will Hung has been a fan of Drag Queens and Kings for a long
time! "I attended several San Diego King's Club shows in drag before
conjuring up enough nerve to get on stage. I had performed a couple of times
out-of-state but not where a lot of seasoned Drag Kings were. It was
intimidating trying to figure out what I could perform to be worthy of the
company of these amazing San Diego Kings!"
Will finally got on stage April 10, 2002 for the Wed. contest.
After the finals a week later, the Kings invited Will to join the troupe.
Since that time, Will has performed over 80 numbers solo or
with other Kings ranging from a long black dress jazz number to oldies, a
basketball playing dance number to 70s/80s/90s. Starting the journey to earn the
title Prop King, Will can be seen sweeping, holding signs, handing out flyers,
setting up radios or instruments, hugging Winnie-the-Pooh, waving
"diamonds", and hey-watch out for those rockets!
The personal is political for Will so a lot of song choices
address issues of gender, justice, and equality. But this gender ambiguous Pooh
with Tigger tendencies also LOVES to dance and have fun cheering on the other
Kings from the D.K. Corral (also known as the bullpen/lineup area for the
performers).
Life is music and music is life. Lip sync or live drums. Air
guitar or safe sax. Will loves music's ability to convey messages, provide
healing, and to stir passion! "It is an honor to share the stage with so
many talented people. Our fans are the best! DJ Arson rocks! Big thanks and
kudos to the venues/people who host our shows. Being a Drag King is an
incredible exploration of music, gender identity, politics, sexual orientation,
vulnerability, community building, spirituality, and FUN!"
